Officials directed to monitor Ganesh chathurthi fest

In a bid to ensure peaceful celebration of Vinayakar Chathurthi festival in southern districts, government has directed officials to strictly monitor the activities and implement its instructions including on immersion of idols in the designated places.
District Collector L.Subramanian said only clay idols would be allowed to be immersed.
He also said the processionists should not burst crackers or do anything that would hurt the sentiments of others.
In neighbouring Virudhunagar also, District Collector V.Rajaraman requested the people to immerse idols only in select places.
Officials said the governmenthad given strict instructions to monitor the Vinayaka Chathurthi celebration and take action against those who violated the guidelines on procession and other activities.
