The state government will deploy officials attached with West Bengal Board of Secondary Education as coordinators at Secondary Examination centres next year.
Education Minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters today while teachers of respective institutions will continue to play the role of invigilators at examination centres in 2018, from now on Board officials will discharge responsibilities as examination centre coordinators.
The previous practice of schools to recruit examination coordinators according to their choice during Secondary examinations at their centre will have to be discontinued from now on, Chatterjee said.
For recruiting any examination coordinator, the concerned examination centre/school will have to approach the Board which will then decide from its own pool of officials and send the official as coordinator accordingly, he said.
To a question Chatterjee clarified teachers will continue to be invigilators at their respective school-board examination centre and the government will not tinker with that practice.
"We have taken this decision only pertaining to examination centre coordinator to dispel any misgivings among candidates and guardians about fairness in the whole examination process," he said.
The Secondary Examinations, known as Madhyamik Pariksha in the state, is conducted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education in all government-run and government-aided secondary schools of the state.
The Madhyamk Examination will begin on March 12, 2018. While examination for optional elective subjects will be held on March 21, the last date for examination of papers, dates for Physical Education, Social Service and Work Education are yet to be announced, Board sources said.
