Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today stressed the need for time-bound completion of power projects with a total generation capacity of 9,000 MWs for financial independence of the state.
"There is a need for putting various projects on fast track to achieve the goal of generating 9,000 MWs of power in near future, which are essential for financial independence of the state," Omar said.
Reviewing the progress of various power projects at the 69th meeting of the Board of Directors of Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC), Omar said the government had taken various initiatives to catapult power generation in the state and JKSPDC had an important role to play to help achieve the goal and move towards achieving self-reliance in energy production.
The projects under implementation and those in the pipeline need to be monitored regularly to ensure their speedy completion, he said.
"You should prepare a bar-chart for every project monitoring the physical and financial status on monthly basis," Omar told the JKSPDC Board members.
The Board had approved Rs 4,414.59 crore for the corporation for the year 2013-14, an official spokesman said.
Later, the Chief Minister, who is also the chairman of JKSPDC, laid foundation of the Rs 48-crore new complex of the corporation at Raj Bagh here.
The complex likely to be completed within three years would have ground plus five storeys with basement parking, board room, conference hall, auditorium, health centre, fire fighting facilities and green building, the spokesman said.
