Police today arrested one of the three persons accused of raping a 21-year-old girl in a moving car here.
The accused, identified as Badal, was arrested here and the police also seized the car used in the crime.
The girl was allegedly gang-raped in a moving car after she was kidnapped by three youths from the posh Raj Guru Nagar locality here, police said today.
The incident took place on Saturday night when the girl, who is staying as a Paying Guest (PG) in the locality, was returning home after seeing off a female friend who also stays as a PG near her place.
While she was returning, a car stopped near her and the occupants forced her inside the car.
Ludhiana police commissioner Promod Ban said that the three accused have been identified as Sunny, Monu, and Badal.
They were professional criminals and several cases of loot, snatching, and thefts are pending against them in various police stations.
Ban said that a police party gave a signal to a white car to stop near a police naka, and when it did not stop, the police party chased it.
The accused abandoned the car near Bhagat Singh Nagar on Dhandra and ran away in different directions.
Police succeeded in nabbing Badal while others managed to escape, he said.
The car was confiscated by the police from the spot.
