One person was killed while nearly 15 others were feared to be trapped under the debris after a factory manufacturing plastic bags caught fire here today and collapsed, police said.
As the firefighters from the fire department were engaged in dousing the flames, the three-storeyed structure at Mushtaq Nagar collapsed trapping 15-20 persons, they said.
Some firemen were also believed to have been trapped inside.
"We have managed to pull out one body. The person remains unidentified," Ludhiana's Assistant Commissioner of Police, Jitender Singh, who was present at the site, said.
Rescue operations had been launched at the site.
Earth moving machinery has been pressed into service to clear the debris.
Ambulances were also on standby to rush injured persons to hospital as and when they are pulled out from under the debris.
