A 25-year-old man died and two other youths sustained severe injuries when their speeding car rammed into a parked school bus in northwest Delhi's Rani Bagh area, police said today.
From preliminary investigation, it seems that the Hyundai Santro car was moving at a speed close enough to 100 kmph when it hit the rear side of the private school bus parked on one side of the road near the Rani Bagh intersection, said a police official.
He added that the driver of the car was also found to be in an inebriated state.
The deceased has been identified as Gurmeet, who was sitting on the backseat. The car was being driven by his friend, Hemant, while another friend, Manni, was sitting on the navigator seat.
According to the police, the incident was reported around 2.30 AM when the three youths - who work as salesmen at a showroom located in Mansarovar Park area - were heading towards Mongolpuri in outer Delhi.
The entire front portion of the car was damaged by the impact of the crash and all three occupants had to be pulled out by a police team, said the official. They were rushed to the spot, where Gurmeet was declared brought dead.
While Gurmeet was a resident of outer Delhi's Nangloi, Hemant and Manni are residents of Rani Bagh and Tilak Nagar respectively. Hemant and Manni are at present reported to be in a stable condition, said the official.
"A case under relevant sections of IPC was registered at Rani Bagh police station. Further investigation is underway," DCP (northwest) Vijay Singh said.
