The incident occurred near Jarhagaon village when the the bus was heading to Takhatpur from Kuksuda village, Station House Officer (SHO) LP Patel of the Jarhagaon police station said.
He said that a tyre of the bus burst while it was negotiating a sharp curve near a bridge on the Maniyari river.
"The bus, with around 35 people on board, went out of control following the tyre burst and plunged into a field along the road and then overturned," the official said.
Local residents and police evacuated the passengers and sent the injured to a community health centre nearby for treatment, he added.
"Some of the injured were shifted to Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Science (CIMS) in Bilaspur. The driver fled the scene. A case has been registered and investigations are underway," the SHO said.
