While chasing the militants, police fired at them in which a man, who was driving a car, was injured.
Hospital sources said his condition is out of danger.
Two militants, who came on a two-wheeler, lobbed a powerful grenade at the house of government contractor Laishram Kheda at Shingjamei Liwa Lambi area late last night killing a labourer on the spot and grievously injuring two others.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.Family members of the contractors said they had not received any monetary demand from any militant outfit said.
In another separate incident, commandos, attached to Imphal West district police station, yesterday arrested five militants of two outfits Kangleipak Communist Party-Lamyanba Khuman (KCP-LK) and Kuki National Front (KNF) from different parts of Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishenpur districts.
They were involved in the kidnapping of two labourers of a private brick farm and were demanding ransom, Additional Superintendent of Police (Imphal west district) N Herojit said in a statement today.
