One killed, two seriously injured in mishap

One person died and two others, including a one-year-old child, injured seriously today when their car and a tipper lorry collided on Coimbatore-Salem National Highway in neighbouring Tirupur district.
Police said the the the man driving the car died on the spot while his wife and child were admitted to a private hospital with serious injuries.
Meanwhile, citing frequent accidents in the area, nearly 200 people blocked the road, resulting in disruption of traffic for nearly two hours.
Senior district and police officials persuaded the agitators to give up the protest and assured to take steps to prevent such accidents, they added.
