Three others, including two brothers, were detained for questioning.
Initial investigation revealed that there were several criminal cases against the surrendered Selvapandi, including robbery.
The murder was suspected to have been committed due to personal dispute between the Vijayaraghavan and Selvapandi, police said.
Last night, Vijayaraghavan (42) was sitting in his friend's shop and chatting with him when two persons came there and attacked him with sickles and knives and fled the spot.
