The Opposition today alleged that the BJP-led Goa government is "trying to shield the casino industry" by not letting to raise questions on the issue in the Legislative Assembly, and staged a walkout over the issue.
Raising the issue of off-shore casinos in the state, independent MLA Vijai Sardesai, after staging a walkout, said the government is trying to shield the industry by not letting questions on the issue being raised in the House.
"Bureaucrats are taking instructions from Delhi. They are issuing instructions on which question to be diverted to whom. The government has become a slave of the casino industry," Sardesai alleged, adding, "The BJP leadership has become brand ambassador of the casino industry."
The Opposition staged a walkout from the Assembly during the Question Hour, protesting the state government's action of "disallowing" their questions.
An important question about off-shore casino vessel, which is anchored near Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, was not taken up today despite being listed initially, Sardesai alleged.
He said the question tabled in the House was about the environmental impact on bird sanctuary due to the anchoring of the casino vessel, but it was transferred from environment to home department.
Accusing the government of not being transparent, Leader of Opposition Pratapsinh Rane alleged it has "infringed into" the right of the legislators to ask question on the floor of the House.
Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte alleged that the government is trying to institutionalise corruption through various means.
