Opposition AIADMK today accused Lt Governor Kiran Bedi of "trying to scuttle implementation of the port development project by making comments maligning the government and officials through Twitter and WhatsApp."
Addressing reporters here, leader of the AIADMK (Amma) Legislature wing A Anbalagan said when the development of port here to serve as a satellite port of Chennai Port Trust (CPT) was in progress, the Lt Governor had been making "comments and criticisms" that it would be a threat to the environment.
She had been levelling charges against politicians and officials in the context of implementation of the port project, he said.
"If she has any concrete proof about the infirmities in port development project she can expose them through social media as she had doing on various other issues," he said.
"The Puducherry government inked an agreement with CPT some months ago to develop the port here into a satellite port of the former. When work for getting infrastructure ready was on the Lt Governor has been making comments against the port development," he said and wanted Bedi to come out with facts to prove her doubts instead of indulging "in a witch-hunt."
He also wanted the Lt Governor to speak out on various aspects of restoration of air services from Puducherry to Hyderabad.
"Is she not interested in reactivating air services from Puducherry?" he asked.
The AIADMK MLA also questioned the "hike in rates of property taxes" announced now by municipal bodies.
"There was no consultation with Legislators, who are members of the Advisory Council of the municipalities and new rate had been finalised arbitrarily by the bureaucrats causing hardships to the proper owners," he said.
