The ordnance factories were on track to achieve an all-time high production target of Rs 13,500 crore this fiscal, a top official said here today.
"We are inching towards achieving the historic all time high production target of Rs 13,500 crore this fiscal. We would take the same to Rs 20,000 crore by 2017-18, as envisioned by the Defence Minister," Director General of Ordnance Factories (DGOF) and Chairman, Ordnance Factory Board, A K Prabhakar said.
Speaking at a function to mark the passing-out of 39 probationary officers of Indian Ordnance Factories Service at the National Academy of Defence Production here, he said the IOFS cadre is a right platform to use the engineering knowledge to make the country proud.
'Make in India' was an important guiding principle in defence production which has been in the DNA of ordnance factories from the beginning, he said, according to a defence release.
Prabhakar said the Ordnance Factory Board was proud of the indigenously developed 155/45 calibre 'Dhanush', "the best gun in the world".
"We have future plans to develop and manufacture SMERCH Rockets, Pinaka Mk-ll, latest version of 84 mm Karl Gustav with tandem warheads, 125 mm FSAPDS Ammunition, new generation 5.56 assault rifles and New Generation Smart Ammunitions and FICV (Future Infantry Combat Vehicle)," Prabhakar said.
