Kannan's six year term of office in the Upper House comes to an end tomorrow. He is an estranged Congress leader and has been keeping himself at a distance from all party programmes and functions for the last nearly four years.
He was elected to Rajya Sabha from lone seat here in 2009.
Radhakrishnan in a release said Kannan had made excellent contributions in several sectors making use of funds available under MP Local Area Development programme. Construction of toilets in girls educational institutions, setting up a blood transfusion facility in JIPMER,equipping the police department with ambulances, adopting a backward village and infrastructure development under MPLAD were highlights of his work, he said.
This is the second time that AIADMK represents the Union Territory in the Upper House. V P M Samy had earlier been the AIADMK member in 1977.
