Over 1,000 detained under Goondas Act in TN this year:Police

More than 1,000 accused, including history sheeters, have been detained under the stringent Goondas Act in Tamil Nadu this year so far, police said today.
Besides, thirteen persons were detained under the National Security Act, they said.
From the beginning of this year till September 25, a total of 1,127 accused were detained under the Goondas Act and had been remanded in jail as per the orders of Greater Chennai Police Commissioner S George, a police release said.
Among the detainees, 411 persons have been booked for robbery, nine for smuggling pirated VCDs and seven for land grabbing, it said.
