Owing to a Sunday today, a crowd was more outside banks and ATMs, and personnel of Delhi Police, RAF and paramilitary forces were ensuring that people stay in queues and maintain law and order, a Delhi Police official said.
"More than 12,000 personnel of Delhi Police were manning banks and ATMs across the city. They were ensuring that people stay in queues. We are committed to maintain law and order in the city," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said.
Today also police control room received several calls from people complaining about they being jostled in the queue, ATMs running out of cash and overcrowding in the banks.
Police also issued an advisory on its Twitter handle, asking people not to believe on rumours, related to withdrawal of money and demonetised notes, spreading thick and fast.
It kept an eye on social media to identify the rumour mills.
Today a rumour started doing rounds that how one can withdraw money from Reserve Bank of India after getting a signed letter from the Deputy Commissioner of Police of your area.
