Over 96 lakh tonnes of paddy procured in Punjab so far

Paddy procurement in Punjab has reached 96.88 lakh tonnes with the bulk of purchases made by government-owned agencies in the ongoing kharif marketing season 2014-15.
An official spokesman said a total of 96,88,949 tonnes of paddy has been procured at all the 1,806 purchase centres set up in Punjab so far.
Out of which, government agencies procured 95.15 lakh tonnes of crop while the rest was purchased by private traders.
Among government owned agencies, Pungrain procured 30.05 lakh tonnes while Markfed, Punsup, PSWC and PAFC bought 22.09 lakh tonnes, 21.27 lakh tonnes, 9.43 lakh tonnes and 9.79 lakh tonnes respectively.
