Over Rs 1 lakh in cash, 14 kg silver seized in Varanasi

Police today seized over Rs one lakh cash and around 14 kg of silver from a man's car during a vehicle checking drive in Chowkaghat under Chetganj police station area, police said.
During the drive, Rs 1,35,000 cash along with around 14 kg of silver was seized from Anil Kumar, the owner of the Scorpio car who is a native of Gopalganj in Bihar, said Anupam Srivastava, SHO of Chetganj police station.
Unable to furnish any valid documents the Income Tax department was informed, he said, adding an FIR has been registered in this connection and probe is on.
The action was taken in the wake of poll code violation, wherein carrying more than Rs 50,000 cash without its valid papers is prohibited.

Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in 7 phases from February 11 to March 8.
