Over three-kg gold seized from Hyderabad airport

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized over 3 kilograms of gold, with an estimated value of Rs 1 crore in international market, from a man at the parking lot in Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here while he was allegedly trying to smuggle the yellow metal.
"One ground handling staff, who took delivery of the gold from a passenger who arrived by a flight from Dubai to the airport was intercepted by DRI officers at the parking lot and 26 gold bars weighing 3.03 kg was seized from his possession," DRI Additional Director (Hyderabad Zone) General M K Singh told PTI.

The staff is an employee of a private agency carrying out the ground handling services at the airport, the senior DRI Officer said.
"This is yet another case where the personnel employed with the agencies functioning at the airport have been found to be involved in the smuggling of gold," Singh said, adding further investigations are on.
