Pak army chief chairs high-level meet over regional security

Pakistan army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa today chaired a high-level meeting of top military officers and discussed the regional security situation with reference to Afghanistan, officials said.
US Defence Secretary James Mattis, during his maiden visit to Pakistan yesterday, asked Islamabad to "redouble" its efforts to confront militants operating from its soil, reaffirming Washington's concern that Islamabad has not done enough to combat terrorism.
"(The) forum also discussed regional and internal security situation with specific reference to Afghanistan," the army said in a statement.
General Bajwa also briefed his commanders about his recent trips to Iran and Saudi Arabia.

"The COAS took the forum on board about his military diplomacy through his recent visits abroad and interaction with foreign dignitaries visiting Pakistan," it said.
They also reviewed the progress in military operation 'Radd-ul-Fasaad' and enhanced security measures along the Afghan border, the statement added.
