As directed, the ECP backdated the disqualification to April 26, the date that Gilani was convicted and sentenced for contempt after he refused to ask Switzerland to reopen corruption cases against the President Asif Ali Zardari.

"The Election Commission of Pakistan hereby issues notification of disqualification of Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani as (a) member (of the) National Assembly of Pakistan with effect from 26.04.2012," the Commission said.

Gilani was elected from Multan-IV constituency in Punjab.
