A Pakistani man has been executed after being convicted of sodomising and killing a seven-year- old boy in eastern Punjab province.
Convict Qasir Shah was hanged in the central jail Gujranwala yesterday.
Shah had murdered seven-year-old boy after subjecting him to rape at Walgan Sagyan village in Sukhayki area of Hafizabad district in 2006, Jail Superintendent Chaudhry Asghar was quoted as saying by the Dawn news.
According to the prosecution, Shah lured the minor, who was playing outside his house, to fields, where he sodomised and then killed him.
The victim's parents, after failing to find the boy, lodged a case with police.
Later, the body of the minor was found in a pond near the village.
The police took Shah into custody on suspicion who during interrogation confessed to have committed the heinous crime.
District and Sessions Judge Ashtar Abbas handed down death sentence to the culprit who was hanged in the central jail.
Pakistan lifted moratorium on execution in 2014 after Peshawar school attack and since then have hanged at least 471 convicts, according to independent Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.
So far 44 death row prisoners have been executed this year.
