Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will arrive here today on a two-day visit during which he will hold talks with the Nepalese prime minister and other officials as part his country's efforts to engage with regional nations.
Abbasi is visiting Nepal at the invitation of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli.
Abbasi is the first high-level dignitary to visit Nepal after Oli assumed office.
During his visit, Abbasi will call on President Bidyadevi Bhandari and hold meetings with Oli as well as Nepalese officials.
Abbasi is the first Pakistan prime minister to visit Nepal after an interval of three years.
Former premier Nawaz Sharif had visited Nepal to attend the 18th SAARC Summit.
Prime Minister Oli will also host a dinner in honour of Abbasi, according to a statement issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs here.
The visit will provide an opportunity to further expand and strengthen bilateral relations across all areas of mutual interest including trade, education, tourism, defence and people to people contacts, Pakistan's Foreign Office said in a statement.
The visit is a part of Pakistan's "pro-active and outreach efforts" to engage with regional countries, the Foreign Office said yesterday.
It said ways of invigorating the South East Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) as an important regional organisation will also be discussed.
