Pak PM vows to empower Islamabad's first-ever mayor

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today vowed to empower the mayoral office in Islamabad to address the issues concerning common people, a day after his ruling PML-N candidate was elected the first-ever mayor.
"I am very happy at the party's victory in the local body elections. We have a lot of expectations from the newly elected local government officials and we hope that they will address the issues of the common people," Sharif told Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers in Bahawalpur.
Sheikh Ansar Aziz yesterday won the mayoral election here, defeating Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf's Khurram Nawaz.
Aziz secured 49 votes out of a total of 77, while his rival got 26 votes, the Express Tribune reported.

PML-N's other nominees, Chaudhry Riffat Javed, Syed Zeeshan Naqvi and Azam Khan, were elected as deputy mayors.
