Paramjit Singh had committed suicide along with his wife and three children by jumping before a train in Yamunanagar in 2012.
Judge Vimlesh Tanwar also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the convicts Baldev Singh, his wife Gurcharan Kaur, son Charanjit Singh and daughter-in-law Paramjit Kaur.
According to prosecution, Paramjit and his family was living with the convicts under one roof, but his father Baldev wanted him to leave the house.
They were under stress over this as they had no alternate arrangement. This drove them to commit suicide, it said.
The convicts were awarded 10 years in jail under section 306 of IPC (abetment to suicide), and life imprisonment under section 305 (abetment of suicide committed by child) as two of the deceased were children.
Both the sentences will run simultaneously.
