Refuting allegations of violence against the TMC ahead of the rural polls in West Bengal, its senior Partha Chatterjee today said the party has in fact tried its best to maintain peace.

The rural polls are slated to be held on May 14, according to an announcement of the State Election Commission after the Supreme Court's direction to it to ensure "free and fair" election.

Chatterjee said, "The opposition in several cases have provoked our party workers and leaders. Our party has tried its best to maintain peace. The opposition parties wanted to postpone the elections as they don't have any support base in the state."
