British Airways flight (BA 256) was scheduled to take off around 9 AM on Friday. But, after all the passengers boarded the aircraft and it was on taxiway, the pilots experienced some technical snag, sources said.
They asked for permission to return to the terminal and and the passengers were informed that the plane had developed a technical snag.
The plane returned to the terminal but the passengers were made to sit in the aircraft while engineers tried to rectify the fault, they said.
According to sources, the flight was rescheduled for today and the passengers had to wait for about two-three hours before they were provided hotel accommodation at around 4 PM.
The ordeal was even deeper for wheelchair-bound passengers and children with Delhi recording the hottest day of the season yesterday at 44 degrees Celsius.
Though rescheduled for today, the flight has again been rescheduled for tomorrow as the fault could not be rectified completely.
"Today, the flight was schedule for 11 AM but as the fault was not rectified completely, the flight has been rescheduled for tomorrow," a source said.
National carrier Air India came to the rescue of some of the harried passengers today, as they were accommodated in the Delhi-London flight. No British Airways official was available for comments.
