Passport verification: DGP asks cops to visit applicants' home

Goa DGP has instructed his officers to visit the residences of applicants for verification process for issuance of passport and to discontinue the practice of calling the applicants to police stations.
In a circular issued today, the Director General of Police Kishen Kumar has warned the officers of stern action if they do not follow the mandatory procedure of visiting the residences of applicants.
"Instances have been brought to the notice that during the course of verification of forms for passport, local police or Special Branch officials are calling the applicants to the police stations," a police spokesman said.
The DGP has taken a serious view of this practice and also violation of procedure in handling police verification process for issuance of passport.

"It is for information of all concerned that henceforth, the CID centres officials will contact passport applicant over telephone to seek an appointment with him and visit the residence of the applicant for physical verification of address and other details," the circular issued reads.
The DGP said that under no circumstances, any applicant will be called to the police station.
