Congress leader Digvijay Singh today called for a probe into the role of drug trafficking network in Punjab in connection with the Pathankot terror attack, and expressed surprise as to why the Gurdaspur SP, whose vehicle was forcibly taken away by terrorists, was moving without his security.
"This is the second incident of negligence in terror incidents by Punjab Police. NIA should also probe the relationship between drug traffickers and Punjab Police.
"There are many instances of the relationship of drug traffickers with administration and politicians. Did the terrorists utilise these relations to enter Punjab?" Singh said on Twitter.
The AICC general secretary also expressed surprise as to why the Gurdaspur superintendent of police was moving without security despite information about terrorists.
"This is also surprising that an SP of Punjab Police was moving minus security despite information about terrorists," Singh tweeted.
Gurdaspur SP Salwinder Singh, whose vehicle was forcibly taken away by the heavily-armed militants, today said the terrorists initially had no clue that he was a police officer. It was only when his gunman called him and the terrorists picked up his mobile that they realised the person they had caught was a senior officer.
Salwinder said the terrorists had stopped his vehicle when he, along with his jeweller friend Rajesh Verma and cook Madan Gopal, was returning after paying obeisance at Narot Jaimal Singh in the wee hours of Friday.
A day after the SP's abduction, the terrorists had attacked the air base.
