Punjab Congress today slammed the hike in diesel price, saying the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should oppose the decision as his party was a coalition partner in the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
"Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who had earlier been opposing such hikes during the UPA government and now when his party -- SAD -- was a partner in the government at the Centre, should slam the decision," Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa said in a statement here.
"It is a good beginning for achhe din (good days). It is only now that the BJP would understand the basics of country's economy as it is easy to criticise the unpopular decisions which the government had to take purely by the constraints of the global economy," he said.
Bajwa called upon Badal to oppose the same, saying that "Badal had been opposing it earlier otherwise his double standards in public life with which he is associated would be exposed".
