Pb's 3 depts to jointly check sale of spurious milk

To check the sale of spurious milk and other milk products, three departments of the Punjab government today decided to launch joint crack down on the offenders.

The Health and Family Welfare Department, the Cooperation Department and Dairy Development Department have agreed to work in unison to check the sale of spurious milk and other milk products, an official release here said.

State Health Minister Brahm Mohindra said the decision to this effect was taken in a meeting chaired by him here today, in which Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Dairy Development Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu were also present.

He said as decided in the meeting, district level teams will be constituted comprising officers of health, cooperation and dairy development departments to conduct surprise raids on individual milk vendors, milk collection centres and other entities which produce and sell milk products.

Mohindra said milk samples would tested on the spot and strict punitive action as per the provisions of Food Safety Act would be taken.
