Terming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as opportunist, National Conference today accused it of "hobnobbing" with BJP to weaken the ruling dispensation.
"PDP's opportunism reached zenith when it openly begged for four votes of BJP in the Legislative Council elections to weaken NC," senior NC leader and Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather, said at a function here today.
"Nothing more could be expected of the party which owes its creation and existence to BJP. By hobnobbing and taking the side of BJP, PDP's secular credentials have been exposed," Rather added.
Ruling coalition partners NC and Congress today bagged four out five seats and one went to PDP in the biennial election to the upper House of the State Legislature.
Syed Naeem Akhtar Andrabi of PDP, Showkat Hussain Ganie and Abdul Majeed of NC and Mohammad Muzaffar Parrey of Congress were elected for the Council from Kashmir division while Naresh Kumar Gupta of Congress was elected to the Upper House from Doda district.
"People have started seeing through its (PDP) game plan. Seeing the writing on wall, PDP is now trying to ignite passions in its vain bid to defame NC," Rather alleged.
"PDP had lost its nerves to such an extent that it shouldered the responsibility of casting the vote in favour of BJP in the Council elections to two of its senior leaders -- Deputy Speaker Mohammed Sartaj Madni and Nizam-ud-Din Bhat -- indicating lack of faith and confidence in others and expecting defiance," added Minister for Higher Education Mohammed Akbar Lone.
