Pending wages of estate workers to be disbursed by banks

The pending wages of the Valparai estate workers, in the district, will be disbursed through banks from tomorrow and the exercise will be completed in another 10 days.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by the District Collector, T N Hariharan and attended by officials from labour department and various banks, here today.
To mitigate the sufferings of the workers, the salary will be disbursed door to door, from tomorrow, he said.
Accordingly, the officials from State Bank of India, Indian Bank and Union Bank of India will go to respective estate offices and distribute the salary in the presence of the estate management, Hariharan told at the meeting.

The date of the visit of officials to the estate will be announced in advance and the entire exercise of disbursement will be completed in another 10 days.
Besides, workers without bank accounts will be asked to open it with immediate effect, he said.
