People have got disillusioned with ruling National Conference and PDP is becoming a natural choice for them, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti today claimed here.
Her statement came as a block president of the ruling NC from north Kashmir's Bandipora district joined the opposition party here.
"Ghulam Hassan Rather, a noted political activist and social worker from Bandipora, along with hundreds of his supporters joined the party at a function here," a PDP spokesman said.
He said Rather, who was National Conference block president in Ajas area of Bandipora, was welcomed into the party fold by the PDP president at her Gupkar residence.
Mehbooba said it was a healthy trend that "well-meaning and dedicated people" like Rather are joining PDP in large numbers.
"The people have got disillusioned with ruling National Conference and the PDP is becoming a natural choice of well meaning and sincere political workers, intellectuals, professionals, youth and the educated people," Mehbooba said.
She said PDP would provide them space, rights and respect so that they could contribute to the resolution of the Kashmir issue and good governance in the state.
"The present dispensation has failed miserably on all fronts over the last more than five years, and the people are suffering on multiple fronts because of its insensitivity and inefficiency," she alleged.
Mehbooba said her party with the help of people would reform the governance and will make it honest, transparent and accountable.
