Governor Vajubhai Vala today urged the citizens of Karnataka to build a strong nation founded on patriotic sentiments and scientific temperament.
Addressing the gathering after unfurling the tricolour at the 69th Republic Day celebrations at the historic Manekshaw Parade ground here, Vala emphasised that the Constitution vouches for equal rights, justice and security to all.
He said the country has grown rapidly in various important fields, which the world too recognises.
"The world respects our knowledge base, skills and human resource pool. We need to strive hard to be self-reliant, the Governor said.
Vala reminded the audience that unity in diversity is the key feature of the Indian society, which should be preserved.
He also said Karnataka is at the forefront of development and has emerged as major destination to attract investment.
The Governor also said Bengaluru has become a hub for infotech and biotech adding the state has also a choice destination for higher education.
A colourful programme by members of the armed forces, police personnel and school children left the audience spellbound. Around 1,330 students took part in two colourful events - 'Punya Bhoomi Bharat' and 'Naavu Prachanda Bharatiyaru.'
