: As Congress legislators engaged in a war of words with Left party MLAs, use of pepper spray by MPs in Parliament became a topic of discussion in the budget session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly today.
CPI legislator S Gunasekaran alleged that the 'wrong' economic policies of the Congress government in the Centre has resulted in the poor state of the economy in the country.
Claiming that Congress would be routed from power in the Centre in the coming Lok Sabha polls, since Union ministers elected from the state 'did not perform', Congress legislator J G Prince intervened to say that his party has been in power and has also been in the Opposition, but had a policy.
Prince said victory and defeat are the same for Congress, to which Gunasekaran retorted that people are not ready to vote for the party.
"Look at Congress MPs using pepper spray against each other. By using pepper spray what are you going to achieve?" he asked.
When Congress' Prince and Vijayadharani sought to explain, CPI (M)'s A Soundararajan supported his fellow Left leader and asked, "Is it not true what you read in newspapers on pepper spray?"
CPI's Arumugam said everyone was laughing at Congress for its MPs using pepper spray in Parliament, while CPI(M)'s Balabharathi said "Congress' wrong economic policies were hotter than the pepper spray."
After his colleague's support, Gunasekaran continued to attack Congress saying the law and order situation was worse in the congress rule.
