Ignoring the rains, the crowd at the Rabindra Sarobar stadium here today egged on their home team Atletico de Kolkata in their first match against Chennaiyin FC.
A revamped team, a new coach and an untested home ground where football will return after about 16 years, former champions Atletico de Kolkata today clashed with holders Chennaiyin FC in their Indian Super League opener at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium here today.
Rabindra Sarobar last hosted a major tournament way back in the 1999-2000 National Football League when they hosted Tollygunge Agragami, and this year the stadium was made ATK's home ground with unavailability of Vivekananada Yuva Bharati Krirangan where the 2017 U-17 World Cup is slated to be held.
With the dusk, the crowd started flocking towards the Rabindra Sarobar stadium carrying flags and jerseys of ATK as the entire stadium was filled to the brim.
The crowd lustily cheered, whistled and danced for ATK players as the stadium was filled 90 per cent of its capacity.
Yesterday, both Atletico de Kolkata coach Jose Molina and Chennaiyin FC head coach Marco Materazzi have said that their side's were fully prepared for their first match.
