The Bombay High Court today directed Maharashtra Government and other respondents to file replies to a petition challenging a Government Resolution which regularised services of teachers recruited between 1991 to 2000 only from this year.
The direction was given by the bench headed by Justice V M Kanade.
According to the petition, the services of about 8,000 teachers appointed between September 19, 1991 to April 3, 2000 were regularised through this GR from this year, and not from the years of appointment. They would get related benefits only from this year, even if they had joined the service two decades ago.
Petitioner Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers cites an earlier High Court judgement which ruled that the services should be regularised from date of appointment.
However, the Government Counsel submitted that the State had already filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court Judgement.
The Government sought two weeks to respond. The matter would be heard after four weeks.
