Plan for elevated road between INA market and Chhatarpur

Delhi Government is considering construction of an elevated road between INA market and Chhatarpur to decongest various arterial roads in South Delhi, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today.
"A study would be conducted soon in this regard," she said addressing a public meeting in Chhatarpur.
If constructed, the elevated road would help decongest various roads connecting AIIMS, INA market, Dhaula Kuan and Qutub Minar besides significantly cutting down travel time for the motorists.
The four-km-long Barapullah corridor -- the first such stretch in the city -- was constructed ahead of the Commonwealth Games to ferry athletes and CWG officials between the Games Village near Sarai Kale Khan in East Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during the Games in October 2010.

In the second phase, the road is being extended to INA market.
In her address, Dikshit said the city government would provide relief to occupants of the colonies which came up on ridge area, forest land and partly on land belonging to ASI.

The government had in September last year regularised 895 unauthorised colonies out of 1,639 such settlements.
Dikshit said "other affluent colonies" will also be provided similar relief.
Officials said city government was determined to regularise the unauthorised colonies which came up on ridge area.
"The government has expressed its commitment by regularising 895 colonies at one go. The colonies on ridge, forest and near ASI monuments cannot be discriminated against as the residents have spent entire income of their life to construct their dream houses," Dikshit said adding, "The days of demolition and uprooting families have become part of the past.
