The Western Railway (WR) has re- numbered platforms at Bandra Terminus for the convenience of train passengers, who had complained of confusion over the existing arrangement which appeared haphazard.
The move by WR came after suggestions and complaints submitted by passengers frequently travelling from Bandra Terminus, which services long-distance trains.
"After receiving objections from passengers, we have now decided to re-number the home platform and platform number zero at Bandra Terminus as No. 1 and No. 2 respectively," said a senior WR official today.
The change will be effective from July 23.
With the introduction of the new home platform last month, the total number of platforms at Bandra Terminus had gone up to seven.
The platforms have been numbered sequentially for the convenience of passengers and to avoid any confusion, he said.
Now, the existing home platform would be renamed as No. 1, zero platform would be called No. 2, platform No. 1 would be No. 3, platform No 2 would be No 4, platform No 3 would be N.O 5, platform No 4 would be No 6 and the platform No 5 would be renamed as No 7, said the official.
Rajiv Singal, a member of Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) of WR, had requested the authorities to rectify anomalies in the current arrangement, which he had termed as "funny and embarrassing".
"I have never seen this type of numbering in railways. When I raised this issue with a few senior officials, they also found it amusing and said they themselves were fed up with passenger queries," said Singal.
