"Narayanbhai Desai will be remembered as a scholarly personality who brought Gandhi ji closer to the masses. Sad to hear of his demise. Rest in Peace," the prime minister said in a statement issued here.
90--year-old Desai, son of Mahatma Gandhi's diarist Mahadev Desai, passed away in his sleep in the wee hours today at Mahavir Trauma Centre in Surat city, Desai's elder son Nachiketa Desai said.
