Rahul Gandhi today said the Congress stands behind each of its suspended MPs and the truth cannot be silenced in the scams despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi "protecting the guilty".
"We stand with each one of our suspended MPs (3/3): Rahul Gandhi #BlackDayForIndianDemocracy. Truth will not be silenced in the case of corruption scams either where the Prime Minister is protecting the guilty," Gandhi said in a series of tweets.
"The Modi Govt will soon understand that truth cannot be silenced. The ppl of India&Congress Party have shown this in case of land bill," he said.
25 of Congress party's 44 members in Lok Sabha were today suspended for five days for causing disruptions, setting the stage for escalation in confrontation as nine opposition parties decided to boycott the House for these days to express solidarity with the suspended members.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan took the decision, first such major action in the present Lok Sabha, against the members for "persistently, wilfully obstructing" the House by displaying placards and shouting slogans.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi had earlier dubbed as 'Black Day' for democracy the suspension of the MPs from Lok Sabha as her party said the Narendra Modi government is implementing "Gujarat model" of democracy here.
Gandhi, who appeared agitated soon after Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan's decision to suspend 25 Congress MPs, said, "It is a Black Day for democracy.
