Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil a 64-feet-tall statue of peasant leader Sir Chhotu Ram at the latter's native village in Sampla in Haryana's Rohtak district on Tuesday, officials said.
"The contributions of Sir Chhotu Ram to society cannot be forgotten. He is an inspiration for our future generations. Later in the day, the PM will address a public meeting, 'Deenbandhu Smriti Rally' here," Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar told reporters here on Sunday after visiting the site of the statue, which is also the venue for the public meeting.
Haryana Minister of State for Health and Engineering, Banwari Lal, who accompanied the CM during the site visit, said, "Renowned sculptor and Padma Bhushan recipient Ram Vanji Sutar has sculpted the 64-feet-tall statue. As many as 5,500 farmers from the state donated from half kg to two kg iron for construction of the statue."
