Police arrest emu farm owner 7 months after he escaped from PC

An accused in the Rs 59 crore Emu farm case who had escaped from police custody seven months ago while being brought to the Central prison here, was arrested in Palladam in nearby Tirupur district today.
Based on specific information that Maniraj was hiding inside the premises of a private bank in Palladam, police rushed there and arrested him.
He was brought to the city and produced before the court and lodged in the Central jail here, police said.
C Manikandan alias Maniraj was wanted in connection with a case where his Tirupur based firm 'Welltexx', had allegedly cheated over 1,000 investors on Emu business, they said.

As the Emu business proved to be a fraud, Maniraj absconded leaving the investors in the lurch to the tune of about Rs 59 crore.
Even as special teams were searching for the accused, Kerala police arrested Maniraj in connection with a cheque bounce case on March 24, this year.
He was brought to the city the next day on the request of Tamil Nadu police, needed for production before TANPID court here. However, he gave a slip to the police personnel who escorted him from Kerala, while taking food in an eatery around 10.30 pm.
