With the arrest of three persons, police today claimed to have busted a Madhya Pradesh-based gang involved in manufacturing and smuggling of sophisticated fire arms in various parts of Uttar Pradesh and the national capital.
Harender Singh (24), his elder brother Pushpender (29) and Mohit Sharma (30) were arrested on June 4 near Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium bus depot, said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
Three head constables sustained minor injuries after they were hit by the car of the accused.
Police seized 13 sophisticated semi-automatic pistols along with 16 magazines and 100 live cartridges from them, the officer said.
The Special Cell sleuths received information that fire arms were being manufactured in Dhaar district of Madhya Pradesh and supplied to UP, Delhi and other states.
It was found that Singh and his brother, are the main distributors of these firearms and are actively involved in selling weapons to various criminals and local goons of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan, the officer said.
On June 4, police received a tip-off that Singh has received a consignment of firearms from his carrier Mohit, who took the consignment from their Madhya Pradesh based supplier.
It was learnt that the trio will be delivering the arms and ammunition to their customer, in the area near Nehru Stadium.
Based on the information, a police team reached Barapulla flyover where they spotted a car, in which the trio was travelling after moving ahead towards Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium bus depot from Sarai Kale Khan.
The team signalled the accused to stop but the driver tried to speed away.
The accused, however, were nabbed not before hitting three head constables who had a narrow escape.
