Police arrests man wanted by six states

A 25-year-old man who was "wanted" by police in six states for allegedly cheating people to the tune of around Rs 10 crore has been arrested, police said today.
The accused Shahnawaz Ahmed, a native of Gorakhpur in UP and a qualified mechanical engineer, was the alleged kingpin of several inter-state rackets involved in duping people on pretexts that include bonus on insurance policies, offering tour packages and installation of mobile towers, said DCP (West) Pushpendra Kumar.
He was arrested from his residence in Greater Noida on Sunday.
Ahmed had allegedly duped people in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chandigarh (UT), Karnatka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat among other states, police said.

"He has three cases registered against him in Delhi and was declared 'wanted' in six of the aforementioned states. His bank statements have, so far, revealed that he had duped persons to the tune of around Rs 10 crore. However, his associate, Deepak Sharma, is still at large," Kumar said.
According to police, Ahmad came to Delhi in 2010 and started working for insurance brokers at Karol Bagh, where he learnt the tricks of trade and later floated his own enterprise.

He later floated a company here and set up a call centre, employing around 100 persons, in west Delhi's Hari Nagar area.

During interrogation, Ahmed disclosed that his employees used to call people on a random basis and induced them to deposit money as advance or first instalment at the given account numbers in lieu of loan on insurance policies, promising bonus or huge returns, police said.
Ahmad was married and owned a luxurious apartment in Greater Noida, where he lived with his wife.
He had earlier resided in Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar and Vikas Puri areas in west Delhi, said police.
