Five chain snatchers, who used to snatch chains from unsuspected women to meet their need for drugs, were arrested by the police yesterday in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu city, a police officer said today.
On September 30, a woman, Raj Kumari, in a written complaint to the Gandhi Nagar Police said that a youth snatched her gold chain and escaped in a Santro car along with his associates.
During the course of investigation, the police team arrested two accused identified as Varun Kohli and Danish Gangotra from the Bakshi Nagar locality, police officer said.
On the questioning of all the four accused, they confessed to the crime and said that they had sold the chain to one Sunil Charak, police said.
Police later arrested Charak thus busting the gang involved in chain snatching.
"All these accused are drug addicts and used to snatch chains to meet their need for money", the police officer said.
