Police fired shots in the air to disperse two clashing groups here during a 12-hour bandh in Cachar district, which affected normal life today.
The clash broke out when some supporters of BJP, which called the bandh, clashed with a group of people who were opposing the shutdown at Gopalpur in the heart of the town leaving some with minor injuries, police officials said.
To control the situation, police fired in the air, they said.
BJP called the bandh to protest against alleged atrocities on women in the district.
The bandh began at 5 AM and normal life was affected with school, offices and business establishments remaining closed.
