Maharashtra State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation today told the Bombay High Court that it wanted back its plot of land reserved for policemen in Worli, which was allotted to a group of MLAs and bureaucrats or adequate compensation in return.
The corporation informed that another plot of land was promised to them in suburban Andheri in lieu of its land in Worli. However, they were not given such land at Andheri and instead the plot in question was allotted to three other entities.
The three entities were Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, Patlipura Cooperative Society and Akruti Developers, the Managing Director of Police Housing Corporation Arup Patnaik said in an affidavit filed before a bench headed by Justice P Hardas, which was hearing a PIL filed by activist Ketan Tirodkar.
The PIL alleged that six plots of land reserved for policemen were fraudulently allotted to housing societies of legislators and bureaucrats. In return, they were promised land in Andheri, but was never given to them.
The three cooperative housing societies -- Sukhada, Shubhada and Poorna -- which came up on these lands are located in Worli Sagar complex at Worli in central Mumbai.
The bench today allowed the petitioner to make the three entities as respondents within two weeks.
The corporation urged in the affidavit that it was in financial doldrums and had no money or any land left to accommodate policemen. The corporation said that the land in Worli (which was taken away from them in lieu of plot in Andheri) was reserved for constable service quarters.
