An inspector was among two persons killed and a constable injured in a gunbattle with a group of anti-socials in a remote part of Khagaria district early Saturday, the police said.
Acting on a tip off that the group was camping in the area, when a police team had gone to 'Dudhela Diyara' region the gang fired at them and an encounter ensued at about one am, Superintendent of Police Khagaria, Meenu Kumar said.
About 100 rounds of fire were exchanged in the encounter which lasted a few hours killing Inspector Ashish Kumar Singh (30), posted as in-charge of Pasraha police station, and injuring constable Durgesh Singh who was admitted to a hospital in neighbouring Bhagalpur, she said.
A member of the gang was killed in the gunfight, while the rest fled. He was yet to be identified, she said.
